Welcome to my classroom!Dear 6th grade band parents, Welcome to the Williamston Middle School band program. My name is Melanie Rosin and I am looking forward to a wonderful year with your children. In band class, your child will be learning many valuable skills and accomplishing goals that may seem nearly impossible at the beginning of the year. I am always amazed at the growth that occurs in one year of band class and I think you will agree. The most important aspect of a child’s success in band is their ability to give a little at a time. A little practice playing at home, a little time reading note names, a little buzzing on their mouthpiece. In my opinion, it is more important to play 5 minutes a day than 2 hours on a Saturday. As with other subjects, practice makes nearly perfect. I like to focus on reaching goals throughout the year. Each month, your child will receive 10 goals that they should complete by the end of the month. These include: -scales -songs from their book -maintaining correct posture -attending concerts (the easy one to sign off) :) Throughout the year, I like to record students’ playing tests on video. With this feature, children can view themselves, contest their scores, retry with specific improvements in mind, and watch their improvement throughout the year. Concerts are a wonderful experience and allow students to share their accomplishments with friends and family. These concerts occur three times a year and feature music from many genres and areas of the world. I am excited to begin the year with your students and I look forward to meeting you. Thank you for your support of your child’s interest in band. Please contact me with any questions or concerns. WMS Band RoomWelcome to the Williamston Middle School Band Room.
SibeliusEvery morning, I like to post goals, reminders, and exercises through my projector. Kids know what to expect as soon as they sit down. The music program I use is called Sibelius and posts music right on the screen.
Sparty Each year, I make a collage of pictures from throughout the year.
It seems to fit well under the Sparty poster. Go Green! |
